Historically, various cultures and societies have had traditions and practices surrounding death and dying. These practices often involved individuals who provided care, guidance, and support to the dying and their families. In the modern day, we call these individuals end-of-life doulas.

what is an end of life doula
My name is Zoey, I am a INELDA trained end-of-life doula, a practicing occupational therapist, a mother, an animal rescuer, and one with nature. I recently learned that I am an empath, which explains why I feel so much more than my brain can comprehend. I have a passion for advocating for underrepresented communities. I am also neurodivergent and know the importance of inclusivity. I connect with people from all walks of life and am always willing to learn from others.

This session provides a comprehensive approach to end-of-life planning, encompassing both practical and emotional aspects. It aims to ensure that your wishes are understood and documented, legal matters are addressed, and resources are provided to support your medical and emotional needs. It also considers legacy projects, vigil planning, and pre-death celebrations or commemorations, all with the aim of helping individuals and their families prepare for the end of life with care and dignity.
Our service offers companionship and comfort during a person's final moments. We prioritize their preferences for their environment and employ techniques like guided imagery, music, and aromatherapy to ensure their comfort. Additionally, we can provide respite for family and loved ones, allowing them a few hours to tend to their own needs.
This service is dedicated to those parting ways with a cherished animal companion, be it a dog, cat, bird, or any other non-human friend. I'm here to provide a supportive environment for you to discuss your chosen farewell process, share ways to honor their memory, and help arrange a meaningful celebration of their life if desired.

End-of-life can be a challenging and emotional time. People often have a wide range of feelings, including fear, sadness, and even relief. Talking about these emotions can be therapeutic, and a death doula provides a safe space for such discussions. Relaxation techniques and visualizations may be used this time along with sound and aromatherapy if desired.
An end-of-life celebration, also known as a living funeral, empowers you to shape how you're remembered and commemorate your life on your terms. It's an opportunity to gather with loved ones, create lasting memories, share stories, bid farewell, and find closure by expressing your feelings. You have full control over the event, from setting the tone to choosing the location and activities, whether it's a traditional religious ceremony, a dinner, dancing, slide shows, or anything else you desire. The Earthly Exit is here to support and assist in planning this event if you decide to have one.
